If there’s one thing that Chicago, IL residents know, it’s that summer can provide many great opportunities for escape…and many challenges. As the temperature gets warmer, many people want to get on the road, exploring scenic routes or taking a quick trip to the beach. However, warmer weather can also have an impact on your tires, and Jennings Chevrolet has some insight and guidelines into maintaining the tires on your new or pre-owned Chevy car, truck or SUV.

Regardless of whether you’re driving a Chevy Impala or Chevy Equinox, there are some reasons why monitoring the pressure and inflation of your tires is important in overall vehicle maintenance. If your tires are underinflated, they have greater surface contact with the road, resulting in decreased fuel efficiency, lower speed, and more sluggish driving. When your tires are overinflated (with less surface contact)  they can become rigid, wear unevenly, and can also impact fuel economy.

Our Chevy service center has some great guidelines for monitoring your tire pressure and wear. One simple way is checking your tire pressure in the morning, away from direct sunlight, with a tire gauge. (Check on the driver’s side door for the appropriate amount of pressure). You can also check for tire tread wear by inserting a quarter upside down in a tread. If Washington’s forehead is visible on the quarter, your treads are worn and need to be replaced. You can easily check out what you need online via our Chevy tire center. Think of it as our way of keeping you on the road this summer!

Get ready for great summer driving – have your tires (and other systems) checked out at our Chevy service center. Our technicians are ready, willing, and able to help you get your new or pre-owned Chevy car, truck, or SUV ready for great summer driving. Hope to see you soon!
